Writing Is Great!

Exercise Your Mind!

The Writing Is Great! podcast is about writing as a daily exercise to keep your mind fit and flexible in the same way you do physical exercise to keep your body healthy.

For those of us over and coming up to 60, if we’re going to make the best of the rest of our lives, we need to keep both our minds and bodies healthy and active. Writing Is Great! is a weekly podcast conversation with reminders and tips on why to start writing, or why to start writing again, how to get started writing, how to get through the resistance to starting and continuing, and how to keep going.

I started the Writing Is Great! podcast for those of us who have graduated to this point in our lives — what I call Phase 3 in my call to action Some Thoughts On Aging.  (Although, of course, writing is great exercise for everyone.)

Writing is a gift we all have. Writing is about discovering or remembering the ability to do, every day, something that gets richer and deeper with age — articulating what is uniquely yours — expressing what only you can say — what will remain unsaid if you don’t express it yourself, because you are the only person who can.

I’ve found a daily writing practice to be a great, relatively simple, inexpensive, and enjoyable way to exercise my mind. It has become a great way to distill my experience, to revive and release my memories. It releases creativity and imagination I didn’t know I had. Writing helps me to live a more intentional, memorable, contemplated, life. The more I write, the more I remember, the more I have to think about, and the more I have to write about.

And, it's fun. It’s life enhancing. It's true magic.

You produce something from nothing, something only you can — no one else can write what you will write, just as no one else can think your thoughts. To me writing shows a life loved as well as lived. I write to understand and remember my life better, to discover, to pay attention, to be aware, to have fun, to create, to make up, to imagine.

The Writing Is Great! podcast helps you to develop a practice of exercising your mind, to discover the power in your own writing, and to turn the key to a more profoundly experienced life. It's about how to use writing to stimulate your mind on a regular basis using the power of your personal writing.

BTW: You can hear more about me (if you really want) in the Introduction podcast.
